Elkwood Arts, a non-profit program of Dickinson Center, Inc.,  was developed in 1994 when searching for a way to meet the needs of adults with intellectual disabilities who were unable to obtain employment, or who were unable to attend to the required regimen of other area sheltered workshops.  It is a licensed vocational facility providing sheltered employment and training to disabled adults, producing quality, hand made furniture and products.  Elkwood Arts currently has the capacity to provide employment to up to 20 individuals with developmental disabilities in Elk County, Pennsylvania.

Elkwood Arts has become a valued program over the last 20+ years to the individuals it serves.  It has given to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities the opportunity to maximize their independence, integrate into the community, and above all, a chance to work.  Some of our success with individuals can be attributed to the one-on-one attention we are able to provide to our workers.  The individuals served by Elkwood Arts range in functioning levels from mild to severe.  Some have been able to accomplish feats that were once believed to be beyond their reach.  We have seen the commitment of the individuals who work at Elkwood Arts, and would like it to grow so that we may continue to meet their needs as well as the needs of others we have not yet been able to serve.

Dickinson Center, Inc. is committed to helping individuals reach their full potential by providing a comprehensive spectrum of behavioral health, intellectual disability, and prevention services.

Elkwood Arts is partially funded by the Cameron/Elk County Behavioral & Development Program, Edith Trees Charitable Trust, George and Margaret Mee Foundation.

Admissions, the provision of services and referrals of consumers, shall be made without regard to race, color, religious creed, disability, ancestry, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, veteran's status and non-English speaking status.
